Where Faith and Community Meet

Liturgical Ministries

Lectors

In this ministry, you proclaim the scriptures during Mass. Any parishioner high school age or older is invited to participate. The diocese provides training.

Eucharistic Ministers

These special ministers of Holy Communion assist with distribution of the Eucharist on Sunday and weekdays. Any registered and confirmed member of the parish, age 16 or older, is welcome to participate. The diocese provides training.

Ushers

The ushers assist with greeting parishioners, helping them find places to sit, taking up collection, distributing bulletins and preparing the church after each Mass. Several ushers are needed at each Mass.

Gift Bearers

Individuals and families are invited to participate at Mass by bringing the gifts of bread and wine to the altar.

Greeters

The greeters are stationed at various entrances and welcome people to our parish community. Couples, singles and families are welcome to participate in this ministry.

Lead 3:30 Rosary

Christ the King Parish has a tradition of reciting the rosary before the 4:00 Mass on Saturday. Various parishioners lead this Marian devotion.

Art and Environment

This group prepares the inside and outside of our parish for the major liturgical feasts and seasons. A variety of tasks are involved and people of all skill levels are welcome.

Liturgy Committee

This committee studies the feasts and seasons of the Church Year and makes the preparations for their celebration at Christ the King Parish. This group works with those preparing the music, and the art and environment.

Adult Choir and Cantors

Join your voice with the parish choir which practices three times a month and sings at two weekend Masses a month. Cantors are needed to lead the singing at weekend Masses.

Small Music Ensemble

A small ensemble group practices before and sings at the 7:30 p.m. Mass on Sunday. There are opportunities to form new groups.

Pianist/Organist/Instrumentalist

Anyone with training on a musical instrument is welcome to share his or her talent with the parish and assist our music ministry.

Sunday Sacristy Helper

This ministry requires a few minutes before and/or after Mass to see that the preparations for the following liturgy are completed. Individuals or families may participate in this ministry.

Care of Sacristy

Those involved in this ministry care for the sacred vessels and garments that are used at our liturgies. This involves laundering the linens used at Mass and some light cleaning of the sanctuary.

Social Concerns Ministries

Food Pantry Workers

Assist people living within parish boundaries who are experiencing effects of poverty. Volunteers are needed to interview clients, sort and stack food.

Christmas Basket Project

Christ the King assists parishioners and others in the area who are in need at Christmas. Volunteers needed to oversee the Giving Tree process and help sort, stack, pack and distribute food and gifts. A great volunteer project for the entire family.

Church Community Organization (C.C.O.)

Christ the King is a member of the Kansas City Church Community Organization. CCO seeks to build relationships with members of the community and address problems within our neighborhoods. Monthly meetings are held in the parish. New members always welcome.

Pastoral Care Ministries

Transportation Services

Adult drivers needed to provide transportation for parishioners to such things as medical appointments and Sunday Mass. Volunteers will be called on an as-needed basis.

Minor Home Repair

Volunteers needed to assist parishioners with minor home repairs on an as-needed basis. Various skill levels are needed. Please indicate any technical skills you may be able to provide.

Respite and Homemaking Services

Volunteers needed to sit with someone in their home while family members get away for a respite. Parishioners also need light housekeeping services. This ministry directly benefits our elderly and disabled parishioners.

Elderly Resource Services

Volunteers needed to collect and update information which can be provided as a resource to elderly parishioners and their families when making decisions about health care, nursing homes, assisted living, etc.

Sunday of Service

Help provide assistance to our parishioners during our annual parish Sunday of Service usually held in April. Lots of volunteers are needed to help supervise and rake yards with groups of high school and college students.

Eucharist to the Homebound

Eucharist Ministry training needed to participate in this ministry. These Special Ministers of Eucharist take communion to the homebound. Any registered and confirmed member of the parish, age 16 or older, is welcome to participate. Many families find this a meaningful activity. The diocese provides training.

Bulletin Stuffers/Parish Mailings

Assist with stuffing, labeling and sorting major parish mailings. Usually done weekdays on an as-needed basis.

Parish Communication/Publicity

Assist with developing parish newsletter and other communication and publicity needs of the parish. Parishioners are needed to help design layout, write articles and take photographs of parish life.

Building and Grounds

Assist with maintenance issues and capital improvements regarding our parish. Volunteers with technical skills are especially needed.

Family/Community Life Ministries

Christ the King Seniors

Open to all senior citizens of the parish. This group promotes activities for seniors who include monthly luncheons, field trips, retreats and parish garage sale.

Women of Christ the King

Open to all women of Christ the King Parish. This group hosts refreshments for parish functions, holds fund raisers for the parish, organizes retreats for spiritual growth and provides funeral luncheons.

Funeral Luncheons

This group provides parish luncheons as a ministry for the family and friends of a deceased parishioner. Volunteers needed to bring food and help prepare and serve the meal.

Pro-Life Committee

This group plans various parish activities concerning life issues, including National Right to Life activities in October, anniversary of Roe vs. Wade in January and Mother's Day. Group meets quarterly.

Booster Club/Student Sports

The Booster Club organizes coaches and teams for the youth sports program and raises funds to support the parish school. Anyone interested in supporting athletics is welcome to join.

Vocation Committee

The Vocation Committee strives to increase awareness of vocations and address ways that vocations can be encouraged.

Welcome Committee

This group welcomes new members to the parish through phoning, mailing and making visits as requested. Volunteers are needed to help with the various welcoming activities.

Alumni Committee

Work with alumni, current parents and parents of alumni to create and maintain a database of alumni names, organize yearly alumni functions, and prepare alumni news items for the parish bulletin and school newsletter.

Conversations about Loss & Change

This group meets at 11:30-1:00 the first Thursday of each month to discuss their loss experiences and share a meal together. Through conversation, painful and confusing parts of these experiences become cleared and burdens that may have been carried for years become lifted.

Parents of Preschoolers

Open to all mothers of young children. This group promotes activities for moms and children including a monthly playdate, wellness groups and field trips.

Education Ministries

Catholic Parent Teacher's Organization

This group coordinates major fund raisers for the school, sponsors various school activities and organizes classroom support for teachers. Open to all parents of school children.

Substitute Teachers

Work on an as-needed basis for Kindergarten through 8th grade teachers who are ill or attending in-services. 60 hours of college credit required.

Parish School Volunteers

Volunteers needed to assist teachers in the classroom as helpers and tutors. Various involvement opportunities are available.

School Health Room

Work with school-age children to assess illness, bandage boo-boos, and contact parents if a child needs to be sent home.

Early Childhood Center

Adults are needed to assist teachers and caregivers with children 6 weeks to age 4 in a variety of classroom activities from reading to preschoolers to rocking babies. Scheduling to meet your needs.

R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

This program assists adults who are interested in becoming Catholic. Those preparing for initiation into the Church meet weekly from September through Easter. Volunteers are needed to serve as sponsors and assist with meetings.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

During the 11:00 Mass young children are dismissed for a special sharing of the Word. Adults are needed to help lead discussion and assist with crafts and projects.

School of Religion

During the school year, public school students within the parish meet after the 9:30 mass. Adults are needed to help facilitate discussions and activities.

Confirmation/Youth Group

This program prepares high school students for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Volunteers are needed to serve as catechists and assistants.

Ministries for Youth

Altar Servers
